Remember that scene in Mean Girls where the Plastics all stare at their reflections in the mirror and talk about the different things that they hate about themselves? I remember watching it when I was about 13 and thinking “so I guess this is what being a teenager is”. Except that wasn’t what my teen self did. Yes, I had insecurities and things I didn’t love about myself but I never saw the purpose of critiquing yourself constantly, especially in a group setting. When friends of mine would go on the needless rants about what they hated or wanted to change, I played the dutiful friend card and let them know they were crazy and that they were beautiful.
It may sound cliche to celebrate the “new year, new me” mentality and while I can agree that it can be a bit of a scapegoat, I am so excited for this new year and what I’m working towards in it! I’m so excited to say Hello 2018!
2017 wasn’t a bad year, but it wasn’t amazing and that’s what I plan on making this year! I want to really work on myself, on making positive changes and working towards my own future.
So, I love brunch. Totally unashamed to admit that I am that basic on Saturday morning who already knows where she’s going for brunch and has the snaps ready to go. Guilty and unashamed. Well, it’s also no secret that I LOVE Parma Café. So imagine my excitement when I was invited to their media event to taste their new brunch menu!
Honestly, I say this about most things at Parma but, everything way so delicious!! The bagel sandwiches were perfectly made, fresh and didn’t fall apart the second you bit into them.
The lattes were delicious, but that’s just a given at Parma.
The Parma Grilled Cheese is made with smoked cheese and is out of this world. Honestly one of the best grilled cheeses I’ve had at a restaurant, I just had them take out the tomato cause I’m really not a fan.
Their Parma Breakfast sandwich was so well made with fresh ciabatta buns and a perfectly cooked egg.
Their croissants and chocolatine were so fresh and soft, I had to stop myself from bringing a dozen home with me. I can confidently say they were some of the best breakfast pastries I’ve had in Montreal.
August is my final month of summer so I intend to get a lot of reading done. I’ve made it an August goal of mine to read at least 6 books, which is completely doable. Buying a Kindle has made it so much easier to read because I always have it on me and have over 75 books on it at the moment; I’ve finished 2 books this week! Last month I didn’t focus on novels so for the August reading list I’m doing half fiction, half non-fiction.
I am one of those people who loves to plan ahead. I love making lists, organizing my planner, scheduling myself weeks in advance. Since I always have a million and one things going on, not staying organized isn’t an option for me. One of the things that I started doing was making monthly goals for myself. Nothing crazy or too out there. I like to set myself monthly skills to not only keep myself organized, but to give myself something to work towards.
To say I am a picky eater would be quite the understatement. My boyfriend rarely suggests trying new places for dinner unless he has already checked the menu and knows there is a chicken option. I could eat at the kids table every time and I wouldn’t even be upset about it. I’m picky as hell. However, dining at Parma Cafe I can confidently say I ate everything they brought out for me and cleared my plate.
I’ve been to Parma Cafe several times before (their lattes are seriously amazing) but I was invited this time to try out their new menu. I dragged the boyfriend along with me, he even sat there patiently as I took 100 photos of every dish before we could start eating.
Last month I was scrolling through Instagram when I discovered the account called The Champagne Diet. Needless to say the name was enough for me to start scrolling through. The consistency of the beautiful photos and the message that went along with them was so empowering and spiritual. I was obsessed. I soon discovered the account belonged to Cara Alwill Leyba, blogger, author and life coach extraordinaire. As I looked more into her career I found that Cara had written several books and the one that immediately caught my eye was Girl Code.
I am one of those people who absolutely loves Sundays. Back when I worked retail, I refused to work on Sundays just because I’ve always felt that the it was the best day to relax and decompress. I know a lot of people look at Sunday with the “ugh tomorrow is Monday” type of mentality but I promise you, ensuring a positive Sunday is a great way to end one week and start the next week on a positive note. This is why I’ve started with a bit of a Sunday ritual.
I’ve broken my Sunday ritual into two parts: enjoying my Sunday and mentally preparing myself for Monday. It’s no secret that I believe in being organized and staying organized (read all about my organization here) and doing it on Sunday is a great way to start your new week off already ahead of the game.
Some of you may not know this about me but I am ALL about female empowerment. I really cannot think of something more beautiful than women supporting other women. I love reading a memoir where they’re talking about the women who have inspired them or the women who helped them out along the way. And sometimes, we just don’t feel all that powerful or boss-like. We feel like everything is against us and we just don’t want to leave our bed. It happens. So for those days, remember these boss quotes and kick that days ass.
I love the idea of a bucket list, but it’s something that I’ve never put much thought into. Sure, I’ve made a list of things I want to try out and places I want to see but that’s for my entire life. Recently, I had a friend post about how they make a summer bucket list every year and I thought it was such an interesting idea!
