AFA Reading List – July Edition

I know that I already posted about the books I want to read this summer but it’s barely July and I’ve already read all of those books! I’m so big on reading and it really is an amazing way to meet/connect with people! You can learn so much from someone from their taste in books. So, since my “summer reading list” barely made it to summer, I’ve decided to make this something I do on a monthly basis, my own AFA Reading List!

Sometimes it will be books that I need to read, sometimes I’ll include books I’ve read that I really suggest others read and why. I just think that reading for pleasure is something that is so easily overlooked and it really is a great way to bond with others. I mean, there are few better feelings than suggesting a book you love to someone who in turn loves that book and then you get to talk about why you both love it!

So, without any further babbling, here is my July reading list!

Girl Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur

OK so I actually found this book when I came across the author, Cara Alwill Leyba, on Instagram. Her handle is The Champagne Diet, enough said. This book is all about female empowerment and just really finding yourself. It’s about learning who you are, what you want and encouraging you to not be afraid to work your ass off to achieve it. Leyba has a powerful personality that comes through her words and you feel like she’s an older sister encouraging you to take the next step in your life. I’ve started this book already, but I’m only a few chapters in and I have already texted 4 different people letting them know they need to pick this book up ASAP!

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck

Just the title alone is enough to make me want to pick this book and dig in! Author Mark Manson takes his own spin on self-help books and argues that trying to focus your life solely around positive thinking doesn’t work. Believing that a positive outlook on something is the best way to handle it doesn’t cut it.

Rather, we need to stop caring so much about looking at the bright side of things and focus more on dealing with our shit and learning to live with it. In a world of coddling and “special little snowflakes”, we need to learn to grow up and accept that shit doesn’t always go our way and that that is OK. I cannot wait to start reading this one!

She Means Business: Turn Your Ideas into Reality and Become a Wildly Successful Entrepreneur

Clearly July is not a month for novels! Author Carrie Green is a female entrepreneur and an all around kickass woman. She founded the Female Entrepreneur Association, an online platform with over a quarter million members! This books encourages women to make their dreams their realities. She has tons of advice and life stories that women can relate to. From business struggles to balancing her work and home life, Green gives women excellent advice stemming form her own experiences. This book is perfect for the strong minded woman who is ready to strike out on her own or the woman who sits at her 9-5 and dreams of eventually being her own boss.

I hope everyone enjoys these suggestions! the AFA Reading List will be posted monthly at the beginning of every month. Keep your eyes out for book reviews from the AFA Reading List and let me know your opinions on these!
